reclaim your language

the guardian discuss how people were misled to a war… although the tone is “how could we know?” (when all the world was and still is condemning US actions), it has good translation notes to reclaim your language in a PR spin, no-holds-barred propaganda techniques.
.
regime change reads as military invasion
pre-emptive defence reads as attacking a country that is not attacking you
critical regions reads as countries we want to control
axis of evil reads as countries we want to attack
shock and awe reads as massive obliteration
the war on terror reads as a hold-all excuse for projecting American military force anywhere
.
or as in What Would You Do? by Paris, “You think a couple thousand lives mean shit to killers?”.
.
You can listen to the song (it’s the first one on the mixtape below) and exercise your anger (and you’ll need it). also, lyrics with side-by-side information

I’m brazilian and used to distrust organizations (we are taught to rig the system at early age, and we take pride in always finding a “way”, the sweet spot) so watching this american naiveté is heartbreaking. I pretty much refuse to discuss politics here (nice people with proto-fascistic ideas), just stating that they live in a bubble, and leave it as it is.
